Delhi’s Rouse Avenue court on Thursday granted bail to AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal in the money laundering case regarding the Delhi liquor policy scam.

The court ordered a bail bond of Rs 1 Lakh to be furnished. The judge has asked the defence to file the bail bond before the duty judge on Friday.

Vacation Judge Nyay Bindu of Rouse Avenue Courts passed the order after reserving it earlier today, a Live Law report said.

Advocate Rishikesh Kumar of Aam Aadmi Party’s legal team said, " Today, in excise policy scam, Arvind Kejriwal was granted by Rouse Avenue court. He was granted bail on a bail bond of Rs 1 lakh…by tomorrow afternoon, Arvind Kejriwal will come out of jail. This is a big win for AAP leaders, country and people…"

Arvind Kejriwal To Walk Out Of Jail by 8:00 PM On June 21

The release order will be sent to Tihar jail authorities by 4 pm on Friday through the court runner, following which, the jail authorities will start the procedure of making the release memo which could take another few hours.

The Delhi chief minister is likely to walk out of jail by 8:00 pm on Friday.

ED Seeks Stay On Arvind Kejriwal‘s Bail Order

The Enforcement Directorate (ED), on the other hand, sought a stay on the order and asked the court to give 48 hours to sign the bail bond so that the order could be challenged in the higher court.

The judge, however, said there will not be any stay on the order.

A Delhi court had on Wednesday had extended Kejriwal’s jail stay till July 3.

"Truth can be troubled, but not defeated. Rejecting all objections of BJP’s ED, the Hon’ble Court has granted bail to Delhi Chief Minister @ArvindKejriwal ji," the official X handle of Aam Aadmi Party wrote in a post.

AAP MP Sanjay Singh said, " …Arvind Kejriwal coming out of jail at such a time is going to strengthen democracy. This is good news for the people of Delhi…ED’s statements till now were based on lies…this is a baseless fake case formed to trap Kejriwal…"

AAP MLA Dilip Pandey called the bail order the "victory of truth". "We have been saying from day one that the entire case is fake. We respect this decision of the court…" Pandey said.

Congress Reacts To Arvind Kejriwal‘s Bail

Congress MP Manish Tewari said it was "gratifying" to note that Arvind Kejriwal was granted bail by the Rouse Avenue court. "Hope he is able to resume his responsibilities at the earliest," he said.

Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the ED in connection with the Delhi liquor policy scam on March 21. In May, he was granted interim bail by the Supreme Court till June 1 for campaigning in view of Lok Sabha elections. He surrendered on June 2.

A Delhi court had on June 5 dismissed Kejriwal’s application seeking interim bail on medical grounds in the case.

The judge, however, had directed the Tihar jail authorities to take care of Kejriwal’s medical needs in judicial custody.
