Meet IAS Anjali Birla, Who Cleared UPSC In Her First Attempt
As mentioned earlier, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla’s daughter Anjali Birla is an IAS officer who cleared the UPSC Examination in the year 2019, in her first attempt itself. The announcement of results happened in August, 2020 and the Department of Personnel and Training released a Reserve List which included 89 candidates from across different categories, namely, general, OBC, EWS and SC; this list included the name of Anjali Birla. The statement by DoPT read, "The commission , in accordance with the Rule 16 (4) and (5) of the Civil Services Examination Rules, was also maintaining a Consolidated Reserve List in order of merit below the last recommended candidate under the respective categories."
IAS Anjali Birla Educational Qualifications
Speaking of the educational qualifications of IAS Anjali Birla, Om Birla’s younger daughter completed her schooling from Sophia School in Kota. After school, Anjali pursued Political Science (Honours) from Ramjas College, University of Delhi. It is during this time that Anjali began preparing for UPSC and cracked one of the toughest entrance examinations across the world in her very first attempt. IAS Anjali Birla is currently working in the Ministry of Railways.
On clearing the examination, IAS Anjali Birla elaborated on how her father is the reason behind her decision to pursue a career in civil services and how her elder sister is her source of guidance and motivation. IAS Anjali Birla was quoted by PTI as saying, ""I am very happy to get selected in the exam. I wanted to join the civil services to do something for the society as I always saw my father’s commitment towards the people of the country."
Om Birla Becomes Speaker Of Lok Sabha For Second Time
Om Birla has been in the news for becoming the Speaker of the Lok Sabha for the second term as he contested in a rare election, against K Suresh of Congress. The motion for the same was moved by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and seconded by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh; it was adopted by the house through a voice vote. During his address after becoming the Chair of Lok Sabha, among other things, Om Birla said, "The NDA government has been formed for the third consecutive term under the leadership of PM Modi. In the last decade, the expectations, hopes and aspirations of the people have increased. Therefore, it becomes our responsibility to make collective efforts to fulfil their expectations and aspirations effectively."
